I wonder how many people out there would love to be in my shoes today as I ring the bell of Kristen Stewart’s London flat. For all twenty-somethings, but not only, she is almost a legend. The Twilight saga that gave her global fame caused the overlapping of the character with the actress.

We know just about everything about her: she started acting at a very young age («Both my parents worked in TV and cinema, they would take me to work with them, and I would see people of all ages acting, also children: I knew immediately I wanted to do that»), she is rather private, not too public, and is likely to choose a good book over a party. What we maybe still don’t know is that on set she loves to play jokes on the film crew («There’s a lot of free time and I have to enjoy myself somehow!»), and that if she could be teleported like Captain Kirk from the Enterprise, she would travel back in time: «Around 1948, 1950, to listen to jazz, blues and the bebop of the beat generation.»

Her favorite fairytale? The Jungle Book. And on the subject of fairytales, Kristen is now in London to shoot Snow White and the Huntsman (based on the story of Snow White she is playing the role of). «Yes, but a very original Snow White, an armor-clad she-warrior, » she readily explains. Yet, I observe, judging from some of the set photographs depicting her on a beach in Wales as she is coming out of the water, she is wearing a long gown that would make any girl go crazy. «Oh yeah, that’s when I finally escape from the evil queen. I love that dress, it’s stunning! Wearing it helped me get into the part. The weight of the soaked fabric, for instance, made me realize the difficulties Snow White has to face to escape her fate. Also the hair is key for this role», she explains waving her raven black braid.

«These are extensions. My hair is shorter, it’s more or less shoulder-length. This is not my natural color. Since I started acting I have never had by natural color, which is light brown. But it’s fine, it’s funny seeing yourself look different.» Back to the clothes, she adds: «I would like to wear very feminine clothes, but in my daily life, when I’m home in Los Angeles, I opt for comfy clothes. When I’m away, like in this case, I throw in my suitcase clothes of all kinds, also evening dresses, because I may have the chance to wear them.» I wonder how long does it take her to pack, so I ask her. «I am actually very well-organized. All I need to do is open my closet and just choose. But, you see, although I carry many different choices with me, I always end up wearing a tank top, jeans and sneakers», she says, standing up to show the clothes she is wearing. However, in her case, giving her beauty, the clothes don’t make the man.

«I am naturally slim. It runs in the family, so I don’t have to do particular sports or follow diets. I do all the exercise I need on set. In this period to do Snow White I am never standing still: I run, I jump, I fence, I horse ride... I do all sorts of things», says flaunting a small brace on her right arm «See, I have even hurt myself! Nothing serious, though.» It’s amazing how she oozes energy and enthusiasm from the eyes and her face skin, among the fairest I have ever seen. «It’s true, I am an enthusiast kind of person. If something comes up, I say to myself: “Come on, what are you waiting for, let’s do it!”, because I can’t wait to start. This attitude towards things enables to keep my energy levels always high. I like to jump into new projects.»

What’s coming next, then? «Right now, nothing definite. I will take this occasion to go back home, to my family, to enjoy some time off. This is at the moment my ideal vacation. I have been around the world for work, often without realizing where I was. I like traveling but now I need to recharge my batteries.»

Of course, in order to plunge into the next set again, where she gives her very best. «I am not one of those actresses who obsessively prepares for a role. On the set I do what I have to, but taking a day at a time. If I have to improvise I’ll do it, if I have to learn my lines I’ll do it. Moreover, some screenplays are so beautiful that you only have to repeat the lines as they are. So I live for the moment.» Twenty-one and she already knows how to live for the moment, here and now? «Why worry in advance? I have a great job and I want to fully taste it. I just love it, I will never stop saying it. Seen from outside it looks like a fairy tale, and maybe it is; but behind it there’s a lot of hard work and a few sacrifices. For instance, I love to sleep but in the morning I must rise very early to go on set. So I fight my laziness, I wake up and go to work happy. What is important is having clear in your mind that acting is a job like any other. A job that gives you the chance to reinvent yourself all the time, to experiment new emotions and express yourself but that for sure doesn’t make you a different or special person. Anyway I am aware I am lucky because what happens when you are acting is extraordinary. Sometimes you are so taken by your role and by the story, that you risk being totally absorbed. It went through that when shooting Speak (2004, based on the novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, and directed by Walter Salles, Editor’s Note). I played the role of a withdrawn girl who decides to stop talking altogether. Her silence is a defense mechanism against everyone: her schoolmates, her teachers, her family, herself. In the end it was hard for me to get out of that comfortable silence I had created inside of me. With silence also peacefulness develops, and your thoughts become neater, it’s something extraordinary and unexplainable. Also in On the road (based on Jack Kerouac’s eponymous novel, to be released in 2012, Editor’s Note), where I play the role of Marylou, I had this interesting experience, the freedom of living “on the road” for real, both mentally and physically. This is what I mean when I talk about the magic of acting ».

If I were the Genie of the Lamp, would Kristen have anything to ask me? «Oh please, don’t mention wishes!», she says laughing. «When I’m about to blow the candles on my birthday cake and everybody is telling me I must make a wish, I just go into a tailspin. I’m thinking: what do I wish?, and I just can’t seem to think about anything. Then I close my eyes, take a deep breath and there comes my wish. I don’t know how to explain what goes on inside of me, but that’s what happens: breathing is the key to understand what’s really important to me.»

No requests concerning your job? «I already have all I want. I receive plenty of proposals, often interesting. It’s true, I couldn’t ask for more... Not even a special role I would like to play or a director I would like to work with... I just let things happen.». The interview is over, I tell her.

As she opens the fridge and takes out a bottle of water we make some small talk. Then she walks me to the door, she pushes the elevator’s button, she gets in with me. But she stops at the next floor. As we say goodbye hoping to meet again soon, the doors close, Sliding doors -style. Like the ending in a movie.

Kristen Becomes Face for New Balenciaga Fragrance

Great news! Balenciaga has a new fragrance for women out, and it features Kristen Stewart!! Yay!!

Balenciaga will soon have its own place in the Twilight. The brand has signed actress Kristen Stewart as the face of the newest Balenciaga fragrance for women. Stewart, best known for her role as Bella Swan in the blockbuster movie saga, will represent a to-be-announced scent which is expected to be launched this fall.

“Balenciaga has always stood out to me,” Stewart told WWD on Thursday. “Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always. Always pretty undeniable.”

Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière called Stewart the muse for the new scent. “Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence,” said Ghesquière. “From her early appearance in ‘Panic Room’ to her independent choice of ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ I’ve always sensed her progressive character. In 2006, I invited her to appear in a project shot by Bruce Weber. Since then, I’ve always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga.”

Added Isabelle Guichot, chief executive officer of Balenciaga: “Kristen is the perfect choice as she embodies Nicolas Ghesquière’s unique vision for the second chapter in our fragrance history.”

Charlotte Gainsbourg remains the face of Balenciaga Paris, the first scent from the house, which was launched in 2010.

“Kristen stood out as an evident choice for this new fragrance,” added Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American fragrances for Coty Prestige, a division of Coty Inc. “She has a unique sense of style, quite original and chic in the way she mixes fashion elements. Her elegant modernity and innate rebel style perfectly match with the spirit of Balenciaga.”

Stewart noted that after a busy 2011, she’s taking a bit of time to relax. “My horizon is clear as of now (except for this!) in terms of new projects, which feels incredible,” she said. “I have finished three films I can’t wait to see come to fruition this year, ‘On The Road,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ and ‘Breaking Dawn 2.’”

Lynn Hirschberg: Everyone knows you as Bella Swan, the heroine of the Twilight series, whose penultimate installment, Breaking Dawn Part 1, premieres on November 18. What audiences may not know is that you’ve been acting since you were a child. How did you get your start?

Kristen Stewart: It’s weird, because I would be the last person in my school to be in plays, but I was forced to sing a song in a school thing. I sang a dreidl song, which is funny for me. I’ve never celebrated Hanukkah—it wasn’t in my upbringing, but it was one of those deals where everybody has to pick a song or participate somehow in the chorus. It wasn’t the normal dreidl song; I can’t really remember the words, but it was a more serious dreidl song. The dreidl was huge, it was really honored. And that’s how I met my agent, who was in the audience. I was eight. I was nine when I did my first movie, The Safety of Objects.

Did you do any commercials, or did you go straight into films?
I did two commercials, one for Porsche, but I was definitely not the type of child one would cast in a commercial or any TV that you’d typically go out for as a young kid. I wasn’t the type of kid who would be in stuff that kids watch. I wasn’t cutesy.

In 1999 David Fincher cast you as Jodie Foster’s daughter in Panic Room. He likes to do dozens of takes for each scene. Was that difficult, as a child?
I didn’t realize that 80 takes wasn’t normal. But it’s funny: Some of my proudest moments from film sets are in Panic Room. My character had seizures. Just being able to say, I was 10 years old and I broke all the blood vessels in my eye on that take, is cool. It was fun.

You had a tomboy quality, which was unusual.
I have brothers, and that so-called boyish quality was something that I was deathly self-conscious about when I was younger. I was, like, No, I’m a girl. Actually, I’m still embarrassed to say that.

But it sets you apart from other young actresses. And it made you more interesting.
I don’t really know what to say. I just knew I wanted to work. And I did. I was working when I read the script for Twilight. I read the script before I read the book. I actually did the audition before reading the book, which was kind of crazy. Obviously, I tore all four books apart over the course of three years, but initially I had no idea that Twilight was such a big deal.

Did you have a particular interest in vampires? All young girls like vampires.
I f**king love me a vampire [Laughs]. I was 17 when I read Twilight, and at the time it was so perfect for me. The script was about young kids who think they can handle stuff that they just can’t. And they’re going to do it anyway. Because, why not? Just torture yourself. I relate to that. Vampires are a little dangerous—and we girls like to test ourselves.

In Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward, her beloved vampire, get married. What was the wedding like?
Awesome. This was my first wedding. It was insane. And odd. The wedding dress experience was a huge deal. I tried on one version of the dress, and it was like tweak and tweak and alter and tweak and change, and then it’s done. BFD dress. Huge deal.

How was the actual wedding?
It was major. The last Twilight book is filled with BFDs, things that people have been waiting for for so long. For me, it was ridiculously dramatic: I get married, give birth, the baby has an incredibly accelerated growth rate we’re all very concerned about, and I say goodbye to my dad for the last time ever. It was all big—I could never go, Whew, I’m losing this character.

Did you finally say goodbye to Bella in some meaningful way? You’ve been living with her for a long time.
I’d been anticipating that end-of-Bella moment. I was going, Oh, my God—I wonder how I’m going to feel. And the last scene of the shoot was at the wedding. Every single character was there on set. At the end of that day, I was kind of whacked. And so I never really had that moment then. Instead, it happened later. We needed to film one more sort of honeymoon scene and we went to the Virgin Islands. After that scene, my true final scene, I felt like I could shoot up into the night sky and every pore of my body would shoot light. I felt lighter than I’ve ever felt in my life.

Twilight was your college, and you graduated, in a way: You became Bella Swan at 17, and now you’re 21.
Yeah—and that time has been sort of nuts for me. In film, I have chronicled every stage of my life since I was nine. And it’s more intense now, obviously, because I’m not in control of it anymore.

You’re not in charge of your life?
No. Not really. Not if I want to think solely about what I really like to do. It’s a funny thing: You want so badly for people to see what you do—you’re proud of it—and I like the effect that movies have on people. But the attention can also make me uncomfortable. In certain situations, people say to me, “C’mon, what’s wrong with you?” I apologize. I love what I’m doing, but I’m a little uncomfortable.

Do you like watching yourself?
It’s not like I sit around watching my movies again and again, but I’ve never quite believed actors when they say they don’t watch themselves. I hear them going around the block to make excuses for why they don’t watch their work. It’s bullshit. Sorry, guys—I know you watch your stuff.

It must be interesting to watch your younger self in movies. Very few people have such an extensive visual record of themselves at so many ages.
I get embarrassed. It’s weird, too: I’m 10 years old in Panic Room, and that’s a version of myself that’s pretty far away, but it doesn’t feel that far away to me. Occasionally my dad will flip the TV on, and it’s cool to look at some movie that I’m in for one second. And then, “Dude, off. Now. Like, cut it out.”

Kristen Stewart has dropped out of 'K-11', her mom's upcoming directorial debut! Surprising, huh.

Kristen Stewart's mother, Jules Stewart, has been looking to take advantage of her daughter's Hollywood success by becoming a film director. She has been planning to make her helming debut on "K-11" with Kristen starring as a transgender character. Variety has now learned that Kristen has dropped out of the project, claiming that she has a scheduling conflict. Her older brother Cameron Stewart will still appear in the movie. But just like his mother, this will also be his first feature film. The movie stars Goran Visnjic (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as a successful young record producer who wakes up after a three-day binge in a special unit of LA County's Men's Central Jail dedicated to vulnerable prisoners, a place ruled by a viper transsexual (Kate del Castillo). Other actors on board are D.B. Sweeney (Hardball), Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), Jason Mewes (Clerks) and Tommy "Tiny" Lister (The Fifth Element). Shooting is set to begin on July 18th.

Cinema Blend has acquired exclusive new photos for the upcoming film Snow White and the Huntsman. It stars our Kristen as the title role, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, and Chris Hemsworth.

The Snow White and the Huntsman panel just ended at the San Diego Comic Con, and we’ve got things to show you. The movie stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White, but it’s not Snow White as you’ve ever envisioned her. Think Snow White in battle armor. Actually, don’t just think it, check out the first ever pic of Stewart as Snow White in Huntsman. You can see where they’re going with this thing. Think about what Tim Burton did with Alice in Wonderland, for instance, where Alice ended up in similarly badass armor by the movie’s end. At last the existence of two simultaneous Snow White projects in Hollywood is starting to make sense. The two films are so different, that it now seems almost ridiculous to consider them in the same category. Tarsem Singh’s movie is taking a more traditional approach, as illustrated by the first picture of his Snow White here. Meanwhile Snow White and the Huntsman is apparently some sort of battle movie which will bear almost no resemblance to anything Snow White we’ve ever seen before. In fact during the Comic Con panel for the film, they compared the movie to Lord of the Rings, and it seem clear from these images that this is definitely where they're going with it.

Oh no! Kristen Stewart got into a fender bender in Hollywood on Thursday, but luckily it doesn’t look like it was too big of a deal. K-Stew, dressed in jeans and a gray v-neck T-shirt (with trademark look of her shirt tied at the bottom), appeared to be just fine and was of course very cooperative while exchanging information with the other female driver. Considering the paparazzi were on scene to capture all of this, we can’t help but wonder if they might have been part of the problem? Following the fender bender, the Twilight leading lady was so friendly to the photogs!

'Snow White' Planned as a Trilogy

Kristen's upcoming project Snow White and the Huntsman is planned to be a trilogy.

Snow White And The Huntsman producer Joe Roth has revealed that the Kristen Stewart-starring fairytale revamp is being set up as a trilogy. “It's meant to be the first in a series of films,” he says. “This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters.” In Huntsman, Stewart plays the role of Snow White, who’s cast out by Charlize Theron’s evil queen. Luckily for our heroine, though, she’s taken in by the hunky Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth). “We retain the basic story in the same way we retain the basic story of Alice, a young girl meant to be the queen who is cast out,” Roth says.“The Huntsman is a mercenary, in the sense that he's a guy who is very able in the woods, more able than most anyone. His job is to capture runaway girls, who are all fleeing the kingdom because of the queen.He's a nondescript bounty hunter, as we first meet him... He's not a nice guy, but not only that he’s someone who has lost hope and lost faith. He has lost his wife, given up on everything.” On White herself, Roth adds: “She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods.” For Twilight star Stewart, it looks like she’s just hopped from one beefy, teen-girl-baiting, megabuck franchise to another...

Hmm... I like that Kristen does indie flicks, and hopes that she continues to do it, cos movie like this ... meh...

'Snow White and the Huntsman' Finds Huntsman and a Release Date

The latest screen adaptation of the enchanted fairy tale, featuring Kristen as the titular role, as found its Huntsman as well as a release date.

The Huntsman will be played by hunky Aussie Chris Hemsworth (Thor), while the movie is set to be released in the States on June 1st, 2012. An official statement from Universal Pictures:

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, May 15, 2011 – Universal Pictures announced today that its epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman will make a bold move into the early summer movie season with its new release date of June 1, 2012. The much anticipated film stars Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Thor’s Chris Hemsworth and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Sam Claflin.

This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders (Halo 3 campaign) had originally been set for release in late December of next year. With adjustments to the production timeline, however, the film will now be ready for a summer 2012 release date.

In Snow White and the Huntsman, Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. Claflin plays the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

Of course. That's why Kristen is in the running to play Snow White in Universal Studios's upcoming production of "Snow White and the Huntsman".

According to Moviefone, Viggo Mortensen is in talks to take the part of the huntsman, while Charlize Theron is top of the list to play the evil queen.

This new Snow White movie will apparently focus more on the kind hearted huntsman, who is hired by the queen to go into the woods and kill Snow White. There has been no mention of whether the film will resurrect the dormant careers of the seven dwarves. Pencilled in for a December 2012 release, Snow White and the Huntsman continues the resurgence in movie versions of classic tales.

Peter Facinelli is giving Kristen praises for being an awesome vampire in Breaking Dawn.

"She's doing really well. She looks fantastic," he raved about Stewart's transition to a vampire for the final films in the series. "For some reason, once they put those contact lenses in, you look very statuesque."

Facinelli wouldn't go into detail about shooting the last two films in the franchise with director Bill Condon and the rest of the "Breaking Dawn" crew, but he did admit that things have been very action-packed. "We've been shooting the last two weeks with a lot of vampires," he said. "I don't want to give away too much, but if you've read the books, it's the standoff with lots of vampires in play. There's like 70 people going through the works at once. It's a little maddening, but fun.

"We shot pretty much the ending of the two movies the other day," he added about how much time the cast has left on-set. "But we shoot until mid-April."

Kristen Stewart’s body can tell a million stories. Kinetic, she jiggles, feints, and darts as she talks, hanging back, looking off to the side, signaling resistance, a combinative intelligence. “The word I always use for her is vulpine.” says Jack Scott, who recently directed her in Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays a teenage runaway and lap dancer. “Foxlike. She’s got that way of moving and being that you often find in her performances, a sort of wiliness.”

In other words, Stewart projects the kind of wary, rebellious edge that is so much more typical of her age group – she is 20 – than gleeful high spirits, which is problably one reason she is head and shoulders above her peers in Hollywood’s power pyramid, and a director’s darling. Scott heard about her from his friend Sean Penn after Penn cast her as the unmoored daughter of hippie parents in the memorable Into the Wild. “Sean said, ‘You’ve gotta see this kid,’ Scott recalls. “She’s just so alive!” For Bill Condon, currently ensconced in a year’s worth of filming for Breaking Dawn, the two-part finale of the mighty Twilight Saga, “Kristen was the top of my list of reasons to do this movie.”

On a fall weekend in a quiet, suburban part of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the town where the Breaking Dawn set is located (with much secrecy and heavy confidentialy agreements), Stewart, a slyph in tomboyish jeans and a lumberjack shirt, is moving around the kitchen of a friend’s house, cracking her knuckles as she talks. She gets nervous dealing with the media – TV interviews in particular, she says, make her squirm – and she is sometimes accused of being downbeat and defensive in her public appearances, not least because she rarely smiles. She nurses some bad-girl career. “I choose things that are so overly ambitious, and if I can’t do steff like that, I don’t want to be doing this.”, she says. Scratch the surface, however, and the attitude seems more about the passion and perfectionism she feels about her work and the opposite. “A compulsion absolutely fills you”, she says of finding a good part, and admits that she sometimes has difficulty lettin go.

Today she is stoked from having just returned from shooting On the Road with Walter Salles, the masterly Brazilian director of The Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station. She plays a character based on Neal Cassady’s wirst wife, LuAnne Henderson, opposite Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley. It was an intense improvisatory experience that left her “crying my head off,” she says. “I didn’t want to leave.” Installing herself in Baton Rouge for the foreseeable future was “like going back to school… Twilight is a different beast.” A massive production planned to the millisecond and freighted with dollars signs waiting to happen, Breaking Dawn brings several years of Stewart’s life to a climax. She feels the weight of portraying Bella Swan, “a character who is embedded in so many people’s psyches at this point. It’s starting to enter my head a lot more than it used to because it’s at the end and it’s come such a long way. I just want the fans of the book to be happy.” She laughs. ” I don’t necessarilt care about anyone else.”

To a large segment of the population, Stewart may have sprung fully forned onto the screen as an incarnation of their favorite heroine. (At last count, Stephenie Meyer’s books have sold some 100 million copies worldwide.) But, despite her youth, Stewart has made more than 20 films, many of them independent and nearly all of them stellar, and pulled off such pitfall-ridden roles as a teenage rape victim and a girl disabled by neurological illness. She grew up in the Valley, the daughter in a family on the more nuts-and-bolts side of the industry – her mother is a script supervisor, her father a TV producer, her brother is a grip. After being spotted as a child at a school performance, Stewart walked straight onto the A-list, talking her first proper role in 2001′s The Safety of Objects, an adaptation of A.M. Homes story collection, alongside Glenn Close and Patricia Clarkson, and her second in Panic Room, a virtual two-hander with Jodie Foster. “At that time I just thought it was fun,” she says, grateful that she began her career before adolescent insecurities set in. “I don’t think I would ever have been able to be an actress had I not started at nine years old. I would have been the last person to stand up and say, ‘I’d like to star in the play.”

Some facts about Stewart: Currently on her nightstand are Dave Cullen’s Columbine; Into the Wild author John Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven, a study of radical Mormonism; and Anna Karenina. On her playlist, the Shins, Broken Bells, and Jenny Lewis, the L.A musician who puts Stewart in the unusual position of being starstruck herself: “She’s the only person I’ve ever met that I can’t function around.” (Stewart also plays guitar and was thrilled to portray Joan Jett, whom she got to know, in The Runaways.) Her favorite movies are John Cassavetes’ A Woman Under the Influence, starring Gena Rowlands, and La Vie in Rose, with Marion Cotillard.

She loves Jane Fonda in Klute. Her new hobby is cooking, no doubt encouraged by the fact that she lives in a somewhat isolated way: “You build a perimeter of people that are really important to you.” Friends tease her for wathcing the Food Network with a stern frown of concentration on her face. “I’m such a dork.” (The frown pays off. For lunch, she prepares an elaborate, and delicious, Mexican tortilla soup with numerous condiments, slong with pulled-pork sandwiches.) She also likes involving private membership and small numbers of people over large areas. So far, a regular if interesting young woman. In other ways, not regular at all. If she sees a teenage girl. Stewart will literally duck and cover. “There’s no way to eloquently put this”, she says. “I just can’t go to the mall. It bothers me that I can’t be outside very often. And also to not ever be ‘some girl’ again. Just being some chick at some place, that’s gone.”

She can pinpoint the week she stopped being “some girl” and entered the land of 24-hour security, lockdowns, and endless speculation about her relationship with her co-star Robert Pattinson, which she refuses to discuss. (“It’s not my job.”) She had completed the first Twilight movie, which had not yet been released, and just filmed Welcome to the Rileys in New Orleans, where, she says, “Ifeel so good walking down the street by myself,” before correcting herself: “At least I used to.” She went back for an extra week of work during editing, and suddenly she coudn’t walk down the street anymore. “It really erupted,” she says. “It was a weird thing to watch.”

Stewart, who is careful never to complain about the mixed blessing of the Twilight phenomenon, is smart enough to understand the nature of her particular celebrity. “Masses of girl identified with Bella in a really profund way, for want of a better world,” she says. “The connection that I’ve seen people have.. I’ve seen it physically. It’s the chacacters they’re flipping for.” She also feels the power for good that comes with her influence. “It’s funny when you are endowed not only with pulic recognition on a fucking seriously vast level, but also money,” she says with endearing earnestness. “Like, funds.” (She was reportedly paid $25 million for the two films of Breaking Dawn, plus a percentage of the gross.) “Anytime I hear that somebody’s really rich, the first question is ‘Do you do anything with it? Or do you, like, chill? You just sit on it?’” She is thinking carefully, strategically, about how best to put her own contribution to use, and has a plan – inspired by her researches for the role of a runaway in the sex trade – to set up a network of halfway houses to help those who want to recover and get back on their feet. “That would be amazing,” she says. “Right now it’s the thing I feel most connected to.”

Stewart carries a lot on her slender shoulders for a young woman barely out of her teens. But her transition to adulthood will be a boon to moviegoers. She herself may doubt that she will eventually be able to move past the Twilight juggernaut – “At this point it seems like ‘We’ll see what the Twilight girl did. Let’s see how she’s trying to be different’” – but others disagree, and a generation for whom the tattle about KStew and RPattz is not so compelling and the Twilight movies perhaps a guilty pleasure rather than a fervent passion can look forward to seeing her flex her muscles in adult roles. Her nerviness and cool on-screen are interesting to watch, qualities gorwn women would like to see their relfection in. “She’s one of the smartest actresses I’ve ever worked with,” says Condon. “Not only does she have astonishing technical ability, she has an incredibly incisive and serious approach to character. She has just unlimited potential.”

For the last couple of years, Kristen Stewart has been The Twilight Saga's Bella Swan -- and the middle of one of the most hotly contested love triangles in recent pop culture history. The debate between Team Jacob and Team Edward rages anew this week, with the release of Eclipse, but no matter which side you're on, there's no denying that Stewart's film career has always been about more than vampires and werewolves. Over the last decade, she's assembled a crowded, surprisingly eclectic filmography, and we decided to join in the Twilight mania by celebrating her work with this week's Total Recall. Without further ado, here are Kristen Stewart's best-reviewed movies!

10. Twilight
Tomatometer: 50%
Give Kristen Stewart credit for chutzpah. Before she even contemplated stepping in front of the cameras as Bella Swan, millions of passionate readers had their own very strong ideas of what the angst-ridden teen should look and sound like, and if Stewart's portrayal of Bella had disappointed the fans, the Twilight film franchise would probably have come to a very quick halt. Fortunately for Stewart (as well as Summit Entertainment), she made a convincing Bella; her performance not only captured the essence of the character as written by bestselling author Stephenie Meyer, it provided a necessary emotional anchor for a supernatural love triangle that required a certain suspension of disbelief. Critics didn't take to Twilight as eagerly as fans, but its massive appeal was no secret to the Daily Telegraph's Sukhdev Sandhu, who noted, "I watched Twilight in a cinema full of young girls who, when they weren't texting friends and guzzling soft drinks, giggled, sighed and exhaled with a passion that was not only endearing, but a measure of its emotional truth."

9. What Just Happened
Tomatometer: 53%
A few weeks before Twilight descended upon theaters, Stewart appeared in a very different sort of film: Barry Levinson's What Just Happened, a tragicomic adaptation of producer Art Linson's memoirs, which provide a bitter window into the absurd behind-the-scenes drama that filmmakers often face. Playing the teenage Zoe, daughter of the beleaguered film producer played by Robert De Niro, Stewart understandably received less screen time than some of her more famous co-stars (including Bruce Willis and Sean Penn), but Happened gave her the opportunity to rub shoulders with some big names -- not to mention the chance to play a character whose penchant for eye-rolling, back-talking, and bedding older men was far removed from Bella Swan's chaste longing. Though most critics felt it didn't have enough bite, others thought it went just far enough; the Houston Chronicle's Amy Biancolli, for one, called it "the sharpest Hollywood satire since The Player."

8. Undertow
Tomatometer: 56%
For a perfect example of how diverse Stewart's acting choices have been, just look at 2004, when she followed her starring turn in Catch That Kid with a supporting role in David Gordon Green's Undertow, a moody Southern Gothic thriller about the bloody chaos that erupts when an ex-con (Josh Lucas) moves in with his brother (Dermot Mulroney) and his nephews (Jamie Bell and Devon Alan) on their remote Georgia farm. As Lila, the girlfriend of Bell's character, Stewart embodies the idyllic, albeit hardscrabble, existence that the boys are forced to flee when the violence Lucas carries with him inevitably erupts -- and she also gets to reel off one of the strangest lines ever uttered in a teenage love scene: "Can I carve my name in your face?" While it didn't earn as much money or critical approval as Green's previous film, All the Real Girls, Undertow managed to cast a spell on a number of critics, including Film Threat's Stina Chyn, who applauded: "Structured like a fairytale and driven like a fast boat down a leafy river, Undertow expertly blends myth and suspense to create a fable with a wicked sense of humor and an appetite for destruction."

7. The Runaways
Tomatometer: 62%
If she was at all concerned about Twilight typecasting, Stewart could hardly have picked a better way to fight it than playing Joan Jett to Dakota Fanning's Cherie Currie in The Runaways. Not only did Floria Sigismondi's biopic of the groundbreaking (albeit short-lived) band give Stewart the chance to adopt a tough rock-and-roll swagger, but her striking resemblance to Jett helped remind filmgoers she'd always been more than Bella Swan. And by most accounts, Stewart nailed her performance, projecting a combination of pent-up aggression and teenage insecurity that helped make The Runaways more than just a $10 million episode of Behind the Music. While a sizable number of critics felt the movie didn't delve deep enough, most considered it an exceptionally well-acted biopic, with Stewart, Fanning, and Michael Shannon repeatedly singled out for their work. Perhaps no one went further than Cinemablend's Josh Tyler, who gushed, "Kristen Stewart is a modern day James Dean."

6. The Cake Eaters
Tomatometer: 65%
It took two years to make its way to theaters, it's an independent feature populated with quirky characters who have names like Beagle and Easy, and it marks the cinematic directorial debut of Mary Stuart Masterson -- but don't dismiss The Cake Eaters out of hand as just another purposely offbeat indie. Here, Stewart plays a teenage girl afflicted with a rare, incurable disease; it's a role that could easily have been dragged into scenery-chewing melodrama, but she played it subtly, adding her restrained performance to those of a fine cast that included Bruce Dern and Melissa Leo. Though few people saw The Cake Eaters when it finally reached theaters in 2009, it made a profound impact on a number of critics, including the New York Post's V.A. Musetto, who clucked, "With so much junk cluttering movie houses, it is a shame that it took two years for this sweet, intelligent drama to get a release before heading for DVD. But such is the sad state of the movie business."

5. The Yellow Handkerchief
Tomatometer: 69%
During the long buildup to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Kristen Stewart snuck in a supporting role in The Yellow Handkerchief, a quiet, character-driven indie about an ex-con (played by William Hurt) whose return to his Louisiana home -- and the ex-wife (Maria Bello) he left behind -- becomes a journey of self-discovery, not only for himself, but for his two teen traveling companions. As the 15-year-old runaway Martine, Stewart might have been stuck with another petulant adolescent role, but Erin Dignam's script (adapted from a Pete Hamill story) offered more subtly shaded characterizations than most, and Udayan Prasad's unobtrusive direction gave the cast room to shine. And shine they did: Although The Yellow Handkerchief's stately pace and rather minimal storyline arc turned off some critics (ReelViews' James Berardinelli summed it up as "Sluggish. Torpid. Boring"), most felt that all-around superlative performances from the movie's stars were more than enough to make up for any flaws. "You don't need an original story for a movie," wrote Roger Ebert in his review. "You need original characters and living dialogue."

4. Zathura
Tomatometer: 75%
Between his smash hits Elf and Iron Man, Jon Favreau directed a little family sci-fi thriller called Zathura. Adapted from the book of the same name by author Chris Van Allsburg (Jumanji), Zathura follows the fantastical adventures of a pair of quarreling brothers (played by Jonah Bobo and Josh Hutcherson) whose squabbles reach epic proportions when they make the mistake of playing the titular board game, which magically transports their house into outer space -- and the middle of a battle with alien creatures called Zorgons. In the middle of all this chaos is Kristen Stewart as the boys' older sister, who spends a decent portion of the film in cryogenic deep freeze. A thankless role, perhaps, and Zathura went down as a rather surprising commercial failure -- but as far as most critics were concerned, the movie did exactly what it was supposed to. As David Edwards wrote for the Daily Mirror, "Zathura is one of those rare movies that should appeal to kids and adults alike thanks to a great little storyline, neat special effects and a genuinely likeable cast."

3. Panic Room
Tomatometer: 77%
After some early uncredited roles (including one in The Flinstones: Viva Rock Vegas) and an appearance in The Safety of Objects, Stewart received her first big break with David Fincher's Fight Club follow-up, the 2002 thriller Panic Room. It presented a tremendous opportunity for Stewart, who not only shared her scenes with Jodie Foster as her on-screen mom, but spent most of the movie trapped in a single room. Of course, Fincher being Fincher, Panic Room livened up its claustrophobic premise with plenty of style, but still -- this is a movie about two women hiding in their home from a crew of burglars, and if Stewart hadn't been able to hold her own against Foster in the acting department, none of it would have worked. A respectable $196 million worldwide hit, Room prompted slight disappointment from critics who yearned for another subversive, Fight Club-style jolt from Fincher, but Stephen Hunter of the Washington Post spoke for the majority when he called it "powerfully manipulative, quite clever and full of evil ambition."

2. Into the Wild
Tomatometer: 82%
One of 2007's most critically lauded, award-hungry films, Into the Wild adapted the true-life story of Christopher McCandless, a young, uncompromising idealist who shed his material possessions and embarked on a solitary journey that ultimately took him into the Alaskan wilderness -- and to his death. McCandless has been an understandably divisive figure since Jon Krakauer made his story famous with a non-fiction book (also titled Into the Wild) retracing his doomed path, but for director Sean Penn, his tale was tragic and arguably noble -- and Emile Hirsch's empathetic portrayal of McCandless made it easy to see why. Given the nature of the story, Hirsch necessarily dominated Wild, but Penn lined up a stellar supporting cast that included William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Catherine Keener, Vince Vaughn, and (of course) Kristen Stewart. Here, Stewart plays Tracy Tatro, a girl McCandless meets while passing through a Southern California desert commune -- and ultimately leaves behind so he can camp out in an abandoned bus. Along with most of McCandless' decisions, it's a little hard to fathom -- but for most critics, the lessons of his life were rich and profound. As Bill Goodykoontz wrote for the Arizona Republic, "though it's easy to dismiss McCandless' hippified musings and near-suicidal choices as the misguided actions of a kid who read Walden a little too closely in college, Penn's film aims for something more, a deeper telling of a tale of yearning and escape."

1. Adventureland
Tomatometer: 88%
For his follow-up to Superbad, director Greg Mottola opted for another coming-of-age story -- but Adventureland is far from a carbon copy of its predecessor, offering a darker, subtler, far more personal take on life at the cusp of adulthood. This time around, Mottola, who wrote the script, took filmgoers back to the late '80s to tell the tale of James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg), a recent college graduate whose dreams of a celebratory trip to Europe are shattered by his suddenly cash-poor parents. Finding the summer job market lacking, James is forced to take a job at the local theme park, where he meets Em (Kristen Stewart), an NYU student with a rocky home life and a thing for older men who look like Ryan Reynolds. As you can probably tell, Adventureland doesn't offer quite as many yuks as Superbad; unfortunately, the studio's marketing campaign decided to focus on Mottola's recent past, and the trailer emphasized on testicle-punching gags instead of the movie's more thoughtful side. Perhaps as a result, Adventureland didn't make a ton of money during its theatrical run -- but it was a big hit with critics, who appreciated Mottola's obvious affection for his characters and the authentically '80s touches dotting the screen. The cast earned high marks, too, including Stewart, who prompted Tom Long of the Detroit News to write, "Yes, you've seen much of it before, and the nervous James character is now officially a cliché. But Stewart makes you care anyway. This, folks, is an actress."

Kristen Stewart takes one more step toward immortality in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She's put her own stamp on Bella, who's determined to take a walk down the aisle and spend eternity with her vampire lover Edward, played by Robert Pattinson.

Stewart told Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf that, just like her character, she's grown a lot since Twilight first became a cultural phenomenon. But some things haven't changed.

Honesty is the best policy, no matter what.
"I've always said that I'm not ashamed of anything that I say because I'm always being honest, even though you can definitely make mistakes. That's Bella in a nutshell, so I can completely relate to her. I think it's a good thing to be proud of who you are, no matter what. Success is always something completely different for different people. I feel like I've succeeded if I'm doing something that makes me happy and I'm not lying to anybody. That's why I feel really good about myself right now."

So does her romance with RPattz go beyond the screen?
"It's hard to actually take details of your personal life and apply them in a scene because as much as you can identify with a feeling, you just get muddled. As soon as you start bringing your own stuff in, it's like, 'No, that's not right.' You're playing a different person. You have to leave that stuff at the door."

Kissing him onscreen wasn't the problem.
"One of the most challenging scenes was probably finally kissing Jacob for the first time. Bella has got such tunnel vision that Edward is the only thing for her. That's a strange perspective. So when Taylor Lautner and I kissed, it felt like such a different dynamic. I was nervous as hell."

Relating to Bella's dad talking about the birds and the bees.
"It was funny the way Bella got so embarrassed in that scene. I guess a lot of girls do because they probably don't need that lecture. I probably had that moment. I guess that everybody does. But I knew everything, from the word go. I was really mature, that way. So, I never really had 'the talk.' I didn't need it."

Giving in to fame.
"I've definitely relaxed because I've like sort of just relinquished control. There's nothing I can do, but who I am, or whatever. It used to freak me out. I still wish I could tell myself to just like calm down. But that's it."

Glamming up for the red carpet.
"I'm definitely having more fun with it. Usually, if I don't like what I'm wearing, you totally know it. It's like written all over me. That's why I have to make sure I get it right for me. I'm much more comfortable with my dress choices now. I feel like it's actually like I'm wearing clothes that I would wear, and not like I'm wearing weird things to events that hardly function as clothing."

Looking forward to Breaking Dawn.
"I really can't wait to get into it because I've been on the outskirts of what it would feel like to play a vampire. It's been years of dealing with these issues and I've thought about it a lot. It's going to be a trip. It's going to be weird. I think Bella is going to be the coolest blood sucker of all of them. She's got the greatest power. She's untouchable. She's impenetrable. I think it'll be awesome to see how much she's changed from Twilight, where she was this 17-year-old kid who really didn't care about a whole lot. Now, she's going to become the matriarch."

Looking ahead.
"I don't really plan out my career a whole lot. My choices come from the gut. I need to have a really distinct feeling before I do a movie, and I never know what that's gonna be. So far, I've chosen really different things. I know some people think I've played a lot of disaffected teen-age girls, but that's sort of how girls are at that age. I think to play a completely mindless happy person would be mindless and fun and happy, but boring."

In the latest issue of British ELLE, of which Kristen appeared on the cover, she commented on how paparazzi attention is related to sexual assault. Of course, this comment didn't sit well with some, so poor Kristen apologized for her comments.

Kristen Stewart has apologized after comparing her experience with paparazzi intrusion to rape in the July issue of British Elle. “I really made an enormous mistake — clearly and obviously,” says the actress. “I’m really sorry about my choice of words.” Stewart spoke with People magazine in Korea, where she’s promoting Eclipse.

Fans and rape victims’ advocates criticized the star this week after her comments to Elle made their way online. In them, Stewart expresses her frustration with constant paparazzi attention and relates it to sexual assault. “‘Violated’ definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought,” says Stewart. Given Stewart’s past work on behalf of the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and Security on Campus (SOC) organizations, her sensitivity to the issue of sexual assault is established. In that light, the Elle comments are regrettable but shouldn’t be immediately interpreted as callousness toward real victims.

It's OK, Kristen. We're human, we make mistakes. Sometimes, words just slip out. You are forgiven.

Mark your calendars for July 20, 2010 because we can exclusively reveal that's the date "The Runways" will say "Hello, world" on DVD and Blu-Ray! Both formats of the movie will include commentary with Joan Jett, Kristen and Dakota, and two featurettes ("Plugged In: Making the Film" and "The Runaways").

If you get the Blu-Ray, you will also be able to access movieIQ+sync with “The Runaways” playlist — a program that allows viewers to "to access real time information on the cast, music, trivia and more while watching the movie via BD-Live."

Furthermore, there's news (or rumour, whichever....) that The Runaways won't be playing on Malaysian screens!!! Instead, it will go direct to DVD. *gasp*

Nothing is confirmed yet for now as no press release nor promos from NEF (the distributor) have been released, and according to the previous release schedule, it's supposed to be 24th June.

The Runaways was supposed to expand to 1000+ theaters this week, but unfortunately, it only expanded to 204 screens... *sad*

This was supposed to be the weekend that Floria Sigismondi’s music biopic “The Runaways,” starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, was supposed to expand to 1,000+ screens. Instead, and potentially due to a good-not-great first few weekends in limited release, the film went to 204 screens across North America (up from 84 last weekend). The result was actually something distributor Apparition should be quite happy with. Grossing $470,000, “The Runaways” saw its per-theater-average boost up from $2,173 to $2,304 despite the screen jump. That brought its total to $2,517,000.

Well-known movie critics' website Rotten Tomatoes gave a FRESH rating for Kristen's The Runaways. The Tomatometer currently stands at 63%.

Consensus: Viewers expecting an in-depth biopic will be disappointed, but The Runaways is as electric as the band's music, largely thanks to strong performances from Michael Shannon, Dakota Fanning, and Kristen Stewart.

Yellow Handkerchief arrives as yet another indie road flick featuring characters very different from one another on the outside, but similar on the inside. It's pretty to watch (thanks to great camerawork from Chris Menges), but the film never really soars above "That was a nice moment," and into must-see territory. However, superb performances from the four leads lend Handkerchief enough charm to leave those watching with a smile ... and an odd desire to visit Louisiana.

A lil' bit of info on Kristen's and Dakota Fanning's new film, The Runaways.

The Runaways (Neon Angels) is based on lead-singer Cherie Currie's book 'Neon Angel' - a reflection of her experiences as a rock star, but also delivering a strong anti-drug warning to teens and others. The movie chronicles THE RUNAWAYS from 1975 - 1977; formed by teenage girls living near Hollywood, CA., and heavily manipulated by their manager Kim Fowley as 'jailbait rock' (all the girls were 16 or younger when the band recorded their first album). The band ultimately succeeds on their own merits as musicians, becoming the first all-girl rock-band to ever break into the world of arena-filling hard rock acts. The film is directed by Floria Sigismondi.
